For stay dates from 24 July 2026, a Visitor Levy applies to all paid overnight stays in Edinburgh. Below is some simple guidance on this Levy and what it can mean for your stay.
Please note that we continue to receive guidance from the government in regards to the levy, and therefore information is indicative and subject to change as and when we receive further information.
This is a 5% plus VAT charge on the accommodation cost for the first 5 consecutive nights of your stay and is in addition to your booking total.
Applies to all stays in hotels, B&Bs, hostels, self-catering apartments, campsites, and more within the City of Edinburgh.
There is a 5-night cap – the levy is only charged for the first 5 consecutive nights of your stay.
Start date – applies to bookings made on/after 1 October 2025 and applied to stays on/after 24 July 2026.
Yes- certain guests (such as those staying for charitable purposes) may qualify for exemption but must pay upfront and reclaim from the Council.
Yes, rates displayed on our website will always be inclusive of all taxes including the levy for applicable dates and a detailed breakdown of the Levy can be provided on request once your booking is made.
The levy is paid at the time your booking is paid for:
If your reservation has been prepaid and incurs a cancellation fee, the levy only will be refunded at the time of cancellation.
If your reservation is not prepaid and no payment has been taken, no refund will be required as the levy has not been paid yet.
